Ice Fishing Tournament

Valentines Ice Fishing Tournament Nets Big Results for Community!

A celebration of sorts took place this past Thursday March 19 as the Greater Barrie Home Builders Association presented the proceeds of the 2009 Ice Fishing Tournament held Valentines Day.

More than 80 people were on hand for the monthly dinner meeting, featuring Ontario Home Builders Association President Frank Giannone. Among them were representatives from the Learning Disabilities Association of Simcoe County and the Rotary Club of Barrie who were each recipients.

"We cannot thank you enough" said Shari Pryce, Executive Director of the LDAO – Simcoe County, "this money will provide services for so many – children and adults who have learning disabilities within Simcoe County." Visibly moved, Ms. Pryce accepted $20,000 – proceeds from this year's Ice Fishing Tournament. Joan Kelso, one of the Board Members of LDAO gave her thanks to the group as well. "We're absolutely thrilled – this money is desperately needed – we are so grateful!"

Bernie Still was on hand to receive $6,100 on behalf of the Rotary Club of Barrie who provided the breakfast for this year's participants. "It's a terrific event to be involved with," Still said, "and great to forward this money to the Rotary's Environmental Service Committee which have used this money for causes such as phosphorus reduction in Lake Simcoe"

This year's proceeds, when added to the past 3 years amounts total over $95,000 donated to our Community from this event since 2006! Past recipients have been the RVH Cancer Care Centre, Gilda's Club – Barrie, and Habitat for Humanity.
