Ice Fishing Tournament 2008

It is amazing for us to see the growth which has taken place for this event since our first tournament 3 years ago. This Tournament has grown from 375 participants in 2006 to 680 in 2008! This is a Tournament of Committees - and over 15 committees worked together as a team to bring the details of this event together.

Once again we were thrilled to have our own Direct Energy as our Corporate Sponsor along with affiliates Rheem GSW, Redmond Williams and Rinnai. In fact, many of our Members chose to come on board with this event. Once again, Enbridge Gas Distribution provided a terrific lunch for the participants when they came off the lake.

We had a record number of fish caught (over 250!) - although they were small compared to the 16.96lb lake trout caught in our first Tournament. The prizes were distributed for the largest 50 fish - by weight - ranging from less than one pound to just less than ¼ lb.

We were very honoured to have Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources and Aileen Carroll, Minister of Culture join us for a portion of our Tournament. Not only was it a great photo op and a boost for the Tournament, They've committed to joining us again next year.

We were proud to donate $26,400 back to our Community. Habitat for Humanity received a Cheque for $20,000 and the Barrie Huronia Clubs' environmental cause received a $6,400 boost - all because of the success of this year's Tournament!

The focus of this Tournament is to provide resources to our Community which, in turn, provides profile and recognition of your Association and your company. Within a week of last February's Tournament - we'd already received calls as to when our 2009 event will be held. The date is February 14th 2009 - once again on the newly legislated Family Fishing Weekend!
