for Gilda's Club Barrie
"Build for Gilda's" becomes a reality!
They're doing it again... The Greater Barrie Home Builders Association announced today that they are going to build a house - from the ground up - in 3 days. This time round however, they're joining forces with the Barrie Construction Association for the build which will take place June 20-22, in the south end of Barrie.
The two Associations were on hand to make the announcement - and to show a picture of the house they intend to build.
"Members of the Greater Barrie Home Builders Association are responsible for 80% of the new homes built in the Barrie area" said Matt Pryce, President of the Association. "and by joining forces with the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) whose members build in the industrial, commercial, and institutional markets - we've got the entire sector covered!"
On hand from the Barrie Construction Association were President Scott Ward and some of the BCA's Board of Directors. "We're really excited to be partnering with the GBHBA for this project... together we make an unbeatable team!" Ward continued, "It's great to give back to our community and support so worthy a cause."
The 'cause' and the benefactor of this year's build is Gilda's Club Barrie Ontario, as part of their Capital Campaign to raise $2.5 million to open a Gilda's Club facility in Barrie beside the future Cancer Care facility and Rotary House on RVH grounds. Gilda's Club, a legacy of the late Gilda Radner, was formed in 1995 in New York City, and exists to provide a meeting place where men, women and children living with cancer and their families and friends join with others to build social and emotional support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge and not for profit, Gilda's Club will offer support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in a non residential home-like setting. Gilda's Club will serve all of Simcoe County, Muskoka - Parry Sound and area, Grey-Bruce and Dufferin Counties.
"After the weekend build - which will be done by the Professionals of both Associations, the house will be sold and the proceeds will be given to Gilda's Club, but the giving doesn't end there," says Pryce. "We learned from the last "build" in 2004 that everyone who worked on the site, donated product, or had any kind of involvement received a blessing they hadn't expected. We had folks coming off the site in tears because they were able to contribute - folks who had lost loved ones to cancer... it was very moving!"
On hand from Gilda's Club Barrie Ontario was Patricia Gilbert, founding President of the local club, Capital Campaign Committee Members Tom McBride, Sharon Cook and Dean Bell who is also a Member of both the GBHBA and the BCA. as well as Executive Director, Caron Goodreau,
"We couldn't be more thrilled," said Patricia Gilbert, "We've worked with the Associations before and are so looking forward to this project... just look at the house - isn't it beautiful?"
A new logo has been designed specifically for this project - so watch for it and updates of the upcoming "Build for Gilda's!"
